The men and women actively serving our country must pay for their flights home
during leave and often are forced to pay higher fares than most of the public.
This happens because their unpredictable deployment and leave schedules prevent
them from complying with advance purchase and other restrictions and
requirements. As a result, often they are unable to come home because of the
financial burden. It is not uncommon for the airline industry to assess change
fees and up-charges even with proof of orders.

Congressman Tim Murphy (R-PA) introduced legislation on July 9, 2008 to help
troops on leave return home to their families. The "Homecoming Help for Our
Heroes Act", H.R. 6446, requires air carriers to offer reduced air fares and
more flexible terms for members of the Armed Services on active duty.
