WELCOME TO BLUE STAR MOMS
The Blue Star Moms, Chapter 101 (established November 2001), is a support through service organization in the San Francisco East Bay area located in Danville, CA. We have members from all over Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. We are moms, joining together to share our pride, our devotion and our worries for our sons and daughters currently serving in all branches of the Armed Forces of the United States, and our sons and daughters who are now veterans. We first came together shortly after the terrorist's attacks on 9/11/2001. We are an official chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, a group who formed during World War II.
HOW TO JOIN OUR CHAPTER
Membership is open to mothers or stepmothers who have sons and/or daughters currently serving, or who have been medically or honorably discharged from the five service branches of the United States, as well as the National Guard, Reserve and the Merchant Marine. A Letter from one of our Moms
Dear Precious Blue Star Moms:
Some 10 years ago, right after 9/11, my son joined the Army. We were expecting him to join the military and had talked about his many choices. We thought he had decided on the Coast Guard, but when he came home that day, he informed us he had joined the Army. We asked him, "What happened to the Coast Guard?" His answer.... "That office was closed, the only one open was the Army." Hmmmmm.
Shortly after he went to boot camp and was sent to Germany, I found you, my precious Blue Star Moms, Chapter 101. When he was sent to Iraq, I thought I would die. We did not know what to expect, and I was glued to the TV, along with many other parents. You brought me out of my isolation with worthy projects to keep me busy helping our military, with wonderful friendships to talk about our fears and pride, and terrific meetings to share all with other moms going through the same thing. Through his deployment to Iraq, his appointment and graduation from West Point, his deployment to Korea, his marriage and immediate deployment to Afghanistan, you heard it all, you shared it all, you supported me through the thick and the thin. Now he is a new father, currently stationed at Fort Sill, OK, while attending Captain's school. I am content, he is on U.S. soil for now. My heart goes out to all of you who do not have your loved ones home this Holiday Season. My prayers are with those who are still deployed. My heart breaks for those who will not see their loved ones again in this life.
I thank you most profoundly for your love through all these years and hope I can return, in some measure, the support and comfort I have found in this group. This is an even exchange of need and support, those who need, receive from those who can give and the names switch sides regularly. Blue Star Moms has been my strength through these years and I expect to be needing more in the years to come.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to all.
Love,
Vicki
